Summary of investment opportunity:

• Opportunity to invest in a 250 acre farm for the production of chili pepper and have an out grower model of 100 acres to take advantage of Liberia’s current small holder farmers that are involved in pepper production
• Production targeted at local market which has significant demand

Location:

• Proposed areas for farming are peri–urban and rural areas in Montserrado, Cape Mount, Bong, Lofa and Nimba counties.

Incentives:

• Fruits and vegetable production falls under the sectors identified in the Revenue Code to benefit from special investment incentives for a period of 5 years. These incentives include tax deductions with respect to equipment and machinery and the cost of buildings and fixtures used in manufacturing, as well as import duty and GST exemptions. Additional tax deductions are available if the location of the plant is outside Monrovia

Regulations:

• Registration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (business entity)
• Registration with the Ministry of Agriculture
• For exportation to the EU, standards that may be applicable to imported vegetables and fruits include the EU Commission Regulation on Microbiological Criteria for Foodstuffs (PLW 05-292 EG/mc) and Commission Regulation (2001/466/EG) on Setting Maximum Levels for Certain Contaminants in Foodstuffs.
